Gangster Squad

Gangster Squad

Gangster Squad is set to hit the big screen next week and the movie promises to be unlike anything else at the cinema this new year.

It is not that often that we see the gangster genre in all of its glory but this January all that is about to change.

2013 is set to be the year of the great ensemble cast and this has a line up to die for as Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and Nick Nolte join forces to bring this tale to life.

And in this new featurette the cast talk about the movie and the genre as well as footage from the film:

The movie marks the return of Ruben Fleischer to the director's chair in what is just his third directorial outing.

Gangster Squad is his first move away from comedy after working on projects Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less.

The movie is based on the book by Paul Lieberman that chronicle the LAPD's fight to keep gangsters out of LA during the 1940' and 50's.

Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and - if he has his way - every wire bet placed west of Chicago.

And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control.

It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart.

A great gangster film does not come around all that often and Gangster Squad looks set to be a movie not to miss.

Gangster Squad is released 10th February
