King of Devil's Island

King of Devil's Island

Stellan Skarsgard returns to the big screen this week with his powerful new movie King of Devil's Island.

The actor leaves behind the big budget blockbuster for a little while as he turns his attention to the Marius Holst director movie that is based on true events that happened at Bastøy Prison in Norway.

And before the movie hits the big screen at the end of the month we have a couple of clips for you to take a look at:

King of Devil’s Island tells the unsettling tale of a group of young delinquents banished to the remote prison of Bastøy.

Under the guise of rehabilitation the boys’ daily regime is dictated by mental and physical abuse at the hands of their wardens.

The arrival of new boys Erling (Helstad) and Ivar (Magnus Langlete) spark a chain of events that ultimately ignite rebellion. King of Devil’s Island explores a sinister moment in Norwegian history that won’t be forgotten.

Skarsgard takes on the role of the governor of the prison while many of the young boys in the movie were played by none-actors.

The movie has already been hugely successful in it's native Norway and has been received well on Scandinavian film festival circuit.

King of Devil's Island is released 29th June
