All you need is a little star power to dazzle at a film festival and that is exactly what Oscar winner Renee Zellweger did last night to promote her new romantic comedy My One and Only.

The film, which is in contention for the festival's top prize the Golden Bear follows Ann who leaves her adulterous husband and sets out on a road trip to find a suitable replacement with her two sons in tow.

My One and Only brings a breath of fresh air to the festival which seems to have been dominated by the rather depressing subjects of dysfunctional families and war.

But despite the last couple of days, which have brought us the likes of Cheri and, in particular London River, it's the miss movies that are sticking in the minds of festival go-ers.

For one of the world's leading film festivals the lack of quality in the main competition line-up has been surprising, reminiscent of last year's Venice.

But there have been a few noticeable movies that have a serious chance of scooping the gong on Saturday night The Messenger, which was shown quite early in the festival line up was popular with reviewers.

Starring Woody Harrelson the film follows an army officer who has the duty of informing the next of kin about the death of a soldier.

A surprise hit was London River, the low budget film about the aftermath of the London bombings which follows two people as they try to locate their children and build a friendship during their search.

Directed by Days of Glory filmmaker Rachid Bouchareb British actress Brenda Blethyn's central performance was highly praised at the screening on Wednesday.

However despite their strong cast lists Happy Tears, which stars Demi Moore and Parker Posey, Mammoth, starring Michelle Williams and Gael Garcia Bernal and Rage with Judi Dench and Jude Law all received lukewarm responses.

The winner of the Golden Bear is announced 14th February
