Man Of Steel

Man Of Steel

The superhero summer of 2012 may only just be drawing to a close but here are FemaleFirst we are already looking at the great movies in this genre that will be heading out way next year.

Yes 2013 looks set to be just as exciting if you are a superhero movie fan as it has been this year with some great movies on the horizon as sequels come our way as well as some franchises getting a good old reboot.

So we took a look at some of the superhero flicks that you cannot miss in 2013.

- Iron Man 3

Robert Downey has no summer enjoyed mammoth success in Avengers Assemble, which is currently the third biggest grossing movie of all time, and he is back as Tony Stark in a third Iron Man film.

Now I don't know about you but this is the superhero movie that I am particularly looking forward to as I love Downey Jr in this role.

While there has been some possible trailer descriptions floating around Marvel have been keeping pretty stum on the storyline.

Downey Jr is not the only actor returning as Gwyneth Paltrow is back as Pepper Potts and Don Cheadle will be reprising the role of James Rhodes.

Some of the new faces include Guy Pearce, who is set to play Aldrich Killian, and Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin while Rebecca Hall and James Badge Dale are also set to star.

There is also a new face in the director's chair as Shane Black takes over the helm of the franchise fro Jon Favreau.

The movie reunites Black with Downey Jr for the first time since Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Iron Man 3 is released 26th April.

- Man of Steel

We have seen Batman and Spider Man franchises successfully rebooted in recent years and 2013 sees Superman follow in their footsteps.

While Henry Cavill has been enjoying some movie and TV success of late the role of Clark Kent looks set to send his star rocketing as he beat off some tough competition for the role.

There is an impressive line-up for this movie both in front of and behind the camera as Zack Snyder will direct, Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas will produce while David S. Goyer has penned the script - that is enough to get anyone superhero movie fan excited.

The movie is the first directorial outing for Snyder since Sucker Punch and he has a bit of a knack for making visually stunning movies.

As with any revamp the story is taken right back to the beginning and Cavill is joined on the cast list by Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Russell Crowe.

Man of Steel is released 14th June

- The Wolverine

It was back in 2009 that Hugh Jackman last took on the role of Logan, apart from that fab cameo he did in X-Men: First Class.

But the actor is currently filming his second solo movie The Wolverine that is due for release next year.

James Mangold is directing the movie and he has been working on a couple of TV projects since the release of Knight and Day.

The movie sees Wolverine travels to Japan to train with a samurai warrior and earlier this week Jackman revealed that this would be a standalone movie with fewer mutants.

The Wolverine is released 26th July

- Thor: The Dark World

We were introduced to Chris Hemsworth's Thor last summer and he returned this year in Avengers Assemble.

But a second movie will be hitting the big screen next year and filming is currently underway.

The movie follows on from events at the end of Avengers which saw Thor taking Loki and the Tesseract to Asgard.

Hemsworth is back as Thor while Tom Hiddleston is back as Loki. Also returning to the franchise is Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins along with Stellan Skarsgard.

Earlier this month is was announced that Christopher Eccleston will take on the role of Malekith while Zachary Levi is also one of the new face.

It is also all change in the director's chair as Kenneth Branagh decided not to return to direct the second film - despite the success that he had with the first.

Alan Taylor, who has had huge success with TV series Game of Thrones, will take over the helm.

Thor: The Dark World is released 8th November.
