It is always exciting to see actors break out and start to make a name for themselves... and we could see a whole host of up and coming stars do just that this year.

2014 looks set to be the year of the breakthrough performance and we take a look at some of the stars that you need to watch out for.

- Theo James

Theo James is no stranger to the big screen with roles in the likes of The Inbetweeners Movie and Underworld: Awakening already under his belt. But 2014 is set to see him take on the biggest role of his career to date.

James is part of the all star cast of Divergent - the big screen adaptation of the Veronica Roth novel - and will take on the role of the mysterious Four.

Divergent is set to be one of the big spring movies and the excitement around this film - the first in a trilogy - is mounting.

I am excited to see how James depicts Four as he is the most interesting character in the books. James is joined by an all star cast as Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Zoe Kravitz and Ray Stevenson are all also on board.

James has also completed work on Franny with Dakota Fanning and Richard Gere, and is filming London Fields with Amber Heard.

- Joel Kinnaman

Joel Kinnaman is another actor who has been making a name for himself with roles in TV series The Killing and film Easy Money.

But he is set to make the step into the big budget blockbuster at the beginning of 2014, as he takes on the role of Alex Murphy in RoboCop.

RoboCop is a remake of the eighties classic and will see the actor team up with director José Padilha.

Set in 2028, Murphy is injured in the line of duty and is turned into a part-man, part-robot officer.

RoboCop is one of the first event movies of the new year, and Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish and Samuel L. Jackson make up an all star cast list.

But it is not all about the blockbuster for the actor next year, as he is also set to star in Knight of Cups - the new film from Terrence Malick - and Child 44 with Tom Hardy.

- Jack Reynor

Jack Reynor may not be a name that is familiar to you at the moment... but it will be by the end of the summer.

Reynor is set to blast onto the big screen and star in Transformers: Age of Extinction; the latest instalment of the popular franchise from Michael Bay.

And entirely new cast has been brought together, as the fourth film is set to introduce us to new characters and go in a slightly different direction.

Mark Wahlberg is set to lead the cast, while Stanley Tucci, Nicola Peltz, Sophia Myles and Kelsey Grammer are also on board.

Transformers: Age of Extinction is the biggest movie of Raynor's career to date as he is set to get a taste of the blockbuster for the first time.

- Jack O'Connell

Jack O'Connell is another name to watch out for over the next couple of years, as he moves away from Skins and into movies.

O'Connell is best known for his role as James Cook in the hit TV series, but made a splash on the big screen this year in Starred Up - a film that played incredibly well on the festival circuit.

But he is heading for bigger things next year as he is set to appear in 300: Rise of the Empire. This is the sequel to 300 and is based on the graphic novel Xerxes by Frank Miller.

Noam Murro is in the director's chair this film around, while Zack Snyder will serve as producer.

Lena Headey, Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro, Sullivan Stapleton and David Wenham are also on board what is set to be one of the most visually stunning movies of the year.

O'Connell has also completed work on 71, a movie that follows a young British soldier who is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot in Belfast in 1971.

- Miles Teller

Miles Teller gave a terrific performance earlier this year in The Spectacular Now, and is set for a sting of great movies over the next twelve months.

January will see him return to comedy as he teams up with Zac Efron and Michael B. Jordan for That Awkward Moment. before going on to Two Night Stand.

But the biggest film of the year for Teller will come in the form of Divergent.

Divergent is the first of Veronica Roth's novels to be adapted for the big screen, and will see Teller team up with filmmaker Neil Burger.

He will take on the role of the downright nasty Peter, and I am excited to see him tackle this role on screen.

- Domhnall Gleeson

Domhnall Gleeson made a splash on the big screen this year with rom-com About Time, and he has a whole host of new projects in the pipeline.

He is set to star alongside Brendan Gleeson and Kelly Reilly in Calvary and Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander in Ex Machina.

But the stand out film for Gleeson in 2014 is set to be comedy Frank.

The movie is set to follow Jon (Gleeson),a wannabe musician, who discovers he's bitten off more than he can chew when he joins an eccentric pop band led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank (Michael Fassbender).

Gleeson and Fassbender are joined on the cast list by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Scoot McNairy.

Other actors to watch out for in 2014 include Jeremy Irvine, Liam James, Asa Butterfield, Will Poulter and Oscar Isaac.
