Oblivion

Oblivion

There are some great movies on the horizon this month from drama to horror as well as seeing the blockbuster summer getting underway.

So what will you be watching over the next few weeks? We ear-mark some films that you absolutely cannot miss this month.

Spring Breakers - 5th April

Spring Breakers is being marketed as one of the most outrageous movies of the year and it looks set to be a lot of fun.

The movie marks the return of Harmony Korine back in the director’s chair who also penned the screenplay.

Spring Breakers brings together a great young cast as Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez and Ashley Benson join forces and they are joined by James Franco - who looks almost unrecognisable as a gangster.

Four college girls who land in jail after robbing a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation find themselves bailed out by a drug and arms dealer who wants them to do some dirty work.

The movie mixes comedy and crime and it is set to be unlike any thing else that will hit the big screen this month.

Oblivion - 10th April

Oblivion is set to kick off the blockbuster summer season as Tom Cruise returns to the big screen for the first time since Jack Reacher.

Cruise teams up with director Joseph Kosinski for the first time as Kosinski adapts his own graphic novel for the film.

Oblivion is only the second directorial outing for Kosinski after he made his debut back in 2010 with Tron: Legacy.

Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo make up a super cast as 2013 continues to be the year of the terrific ensemble cast.

If you haven’t have the chance to check out the trailer yet then you really should take a look as Oblivion looks set to be action packed - not the mention it looks terrific.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jacks mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft.

Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

The Place Beyond The Pines - 12th April

The Place Beyond The Pines is one of the movies that I am personally looking forward to as Ryan Gosling returns to the big screen.

The movie sees him reunite with Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance and star alongside Bradley Cooper for the first time.

This movie sees Gosling return to some hard hitting drama and 2013 is going to be a great year for the actor as Only God Forgives is another exciting project that he has lined up.

Gosling and Cooper are two of the most exciting actors around at the moment and the Oscar nominees will go head to head as two men either side of the law in what is set to be a truly explosive partnership.

Cianfrance has made a name for himself as a director who makes emotional and character driven movies and The Place Beyond the Pines looks set to continue that tradition as Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne and Ben Mendelsohn make up the cast list.

A motorcycle stunt rider turns to robbing banks as a way to provide for his lover and their newborn child, a decision that puts him on a collision course with an ambitious rookie cop navigating a department ruled by a corrupt detective.

Olympus Has Fallen - 17th April

There has been a real lack of Gerard Butler on the big screen of late but he is set to return in a couple of weeks with Olympus Has Fallen.

Not only does Olympus Has Fallen mark the return of Gerard Butler but it also sees Training Day filmmaker Antoine Fuqua back in the director’s chair.

This is the first movie for Fuqua since Brooklyn’s Finest and it is great to see him back and tackling the action genre once again.

Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart and Angela Bassett are also on the cast list while the movie promises to be an exciting ride.

When the White House (Secret Service Code: "Olympus") is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building.

As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning¹s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.

Evil Dead - 19th April

If the horror movie is your thing then there are a couple of projects to watch out for this month… Evil Dead being one of them.

The movie is a remake of the 1981 film by Sam Raimi - who is serving as a producer this time around - while Fede Alvarez is in the director’s chair.

The movie marks the feature length directorial debut for Alvarez and he has also penned the screenplay along with Oscar winner Diablo Cody.

The movie follows five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin.

When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci and Jessica Lucas make up the cast list and Evil Dead is a movie not to miss if you are a fan of this genre.

Iron Man 3 - 26th April

There is not bigger movie hitting the big screen this April than Iron Man 3 - which is one of the most eagerly anticipated films of 2013.

The movie picks up after the events of last summer’s Avengers Assemble and sees Tony Stark struggling with the events of that film.

It is all change in the director’s chair this time around as Shane Black takes over from Jon Favreau - however Favreau will be back as Happy.

Robert Downey Jr is back in the title role while Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle will also be reprising the roles of Pepper Potts and James Rhodes.

But it is the new faces that are causing the excitement as Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall and James Badge Dale are all joining this terrific franchise.

Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds.

When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle.

With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him.

Iron Man 3 helps get the blockbuster summer off in fine style and the film has the potential to be one of the most successful of 2013.

Other movies to watch out for this month include The Lords of Salem, The Promised Land, Dark Skies and Bernie.
