Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck

The casting of Ben Affleck as Batman has sent the Internet into meltdown over the last few days, as fan-boys & girls have called for the actor to be removed from the Man of Steel sequel.

Affleck will take over the role of Bruce Wayne in the film that is expected to be called Batman vs Superman; Henry Cavill will reprise the role of Superman, while Zack Snyder is back in the director's chair.

However, to say that the casting of Affleck has upset a few people is a bit of an understatement - it seems that comic book fans are really not happy.

Seriously, what is the problem with Ben Affleck? He is a fine actor who deserves to land such a huge role. And here is why.

- This wouldn't be the first time that fans have raged about a piece of casting - that they ultimately turned out to be wrong about.

Batman fans were furious when Heath Ledger was cast as Batman for The Dark Knight. It seems all they could see was the actor from the likes of A Knight's Tale, and overlooked his Oscar-nominated performance in Brokeback Mountain.

Ledger went on to deliver what was one of the best comic book villain performances that I have ever seen. He brought his own spin to the character that was as chilling as it was mesmerising. Oh yes, and he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his work.

So perhaps everybody should see Affleck's performance as Batman before saying how rubbish it is; I imagine he may just surprise you.

- Ben Affleck is not a terrible actor, as so many people insist on saying. Now I am not saying that he has made some god-awful movies during his career - but let's face it who hasn't?

Poor film choices doesn't mean that his sucks - you really need to check out the likes of Argo and The Town - both of which have been released in recent years - to see just how fine an actor he really is

Runner Runner is set to be the next project from the actor and, if the trailer is anything to go by, another fantastic and rather sinister performance is on the horizon.

- Since taking up the director's chair there has definitely been a change in Affleck as an actor - a change for the better.

He seems more confident in front of the camera; quite possibly because he has a greater understanding of his craft from sitting behind the camera.

His directing career so far has been great movie after great movie as Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo have been riveting films; the last earning him a Best-Picture Oscar.

Seriously, you don't write and direct movies like that if you don't have any talent; Affleck has talent by the bucket-load.

- Directing is not the only behind the camera skill that he has as script-writing is also his thing.

He and pal Matt Damon won a Best Original Screenplay for the fantastic Good Will Hunting - the movie that really put both of them on the map.

Fingers crossed Affleck will have a hand in developing the character of Bruce Wayne and taking him in a different direction than what we have seen of late.

He has a knack for creating interesting and well rounded characters, and I am hoping that he will be allowed to bring that talent to the table as work on this movie gets underway.

Ben Affleck is a fine actor who, through hard work and determination, has changed the course of his career. He is now a well respected and Oscar winning writer and director who could take the Batman franchise in a completely new direction.

Of course, it is going to be difficult to follow in the footsteps of Christian Bale so close to him leaving this role, but you have got to give the guy a chance!!
