Birdman is another movie that we have been talking about a lot in recent weeks, and it is perhaps the current frontrunner when it comes to the Best Picture Oscar nominations - we could very well be looking at the winner.

Birdman

Birdman marks the return of Alejandro González Iñárritu to the director's chair - which is exciting in itself as he already has movies likes Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel and Biutiful under his belt. Birdman is the first live action feature film since the success of Biutiful back in 2010; he has spent the last couple of years in shorts and documentary projects.

The black comedy has been whipping up a storm on the festival circuit since it opened the Venice Film Festival earlier this autumn, and we have not long to wait now before we get to see the movie for ourselves.

The beginning of 2015, is going to see a whole host of terrific ensemble casts brought together on the big screen, and Iñárritu really has assembled one hell of an impressive cast list for this new movie - it could be one of the best ensemble casts of next year.

Michael Keaton is set to lead that cast as he takes on the central role of a washed up actor looking to resurrect his career. He is joined on the cast list by Edward Norton, Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, and Naomi Watts.

A Best Picture nod is not the only Oscar nomination that could be coming the way of Birdman, as Keaton and Norton are already being tipped to pick up Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor nominations for their performances.

Iñárritu is no stranger to delivering movies that become Oscar fodder, already has a Best Director and a Best Picture nod for Babel and two best Foreign Language Film nominations for Amores perros and Biutiful.

Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance is a black comedy that tells the story of an actor (Keaton) - famous for portraying an iconic superhero - as he struggles to mount a Broadway play.

In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself.

Birdman is a movie that we have been looking forward to for almost twelve months here at FemaleFirst, and it looks set to be a film that really does live up to the all of the hype. January is going to be an exciting month for film fans, and Birdman is set to be one of the movies that you will absolutely have to catch.

Birdman is released 2nd January 2015.
