Vicky Jewson is a British filmmaker who is well and truly on the rise and she is set to return to the director's chair with Born of War.

Born of War

Born of War

Born of War marks only the second feature film of Jewson's directing career so far, and it sees her tackle the action genre for the first time - a genre that she is a huge fan of and grew up watching.

Jewson made her directorial debut back in 2008 with Lady Godiva, but Born of War is a complete change of pace and genre for the filmmaker - I am looking forward to seeing what she delivers with this new film.

Born of War is set to hit the big screen next Friday and we have an exclusive clip for you to take a look at:

Born of War brings together a cast of youth as well as experience as Sofia Black-D'Elia teams up with James Frain. Black-D'Elia has slowly been making a name for herself with roles in Project Almanac as well as TV series Gossip Girl and The Messengers in recent years. She has some exciting projects ahead of her and we really are going to see her star rocket.

Frain has already enjoyed a career that has spanned over two decades and has seen him successfully move between television and film projects - Born of War is the first time that we have seen him on the big screen since The Lone Ranger back in the summer of 2013.

Mina (D'Elia), a young college student, has her life ripped away after her family is killed. When she finds out their murders were part of a botched kidnapping to return her to her real father - a terrorist in the Middle East - Mina works with British Intelligence to take him down...and take control of her life again.

But she quickly learns that there are two sides to every story. Mina's quest for retribution and unsteady alliance with the MI5 throws her into the war-torn Middle East.

Under the strict supervision of hardened mercenary Simon (James Frain) Mina finds herself on a journey to discover her own inherent violence.

There are some terrific British female filmmakers around at the moment and Jewson is one to keep an eye on over the next couple of years - it looks like there are big things on the horizon for her.

Born of War is released 1st May.
