It was back in 2001 when Bridget Jones was brought to the big screen for the first time with a sequel following three years later.

However, Bridger Jones fans have been waiting patiently for a third film in the popular series... and they have been waiting for twelve long years. But now the wait is almost over.

Yes, Bridget Jones is a modern icon of literature and film and this movie sees Oscar-winner Renee Zellweger return to the title role. She really was an inspired piece of casting back in 2001 and I cannot wait to see her embody this much-loved character once again.

Bridget Jones's Diary sees Zellweger reunite with filmmaker Sharon Maguire, who returns to the franchise for the first time since the success of the first movie back in 2001.

This is only the third big screen feature of Maguire's career and the first since Incendiary back in 2008. She is an exciting filmmaker and it is great to see her back with the film series that really helped kick off her career.

As you may expect, the director has assembled another terrific cast list as Colin Firth, Shirley Henderson, Jim Broadbent, Celia Imrie, Gemma Jones, and Sally Phillips are some of the other familiar faces returning.

There are a couple of big new additions to the film as Patrick Dempsey and Emma Thompson are introduced as Jack Qwant and Dr. Rawling for the first time. Emma Thompson is one of the actresses that I am looking forward to the most. She is brilliant in the trailer and I just cannot wait to see her in action and at her comedic best.

After breaking up with Mark Darcy (Firth), Bridget Jones's (Zellweger) 'happily ever after' hasn't quite gone according to plan. Fortysomething and single again, she decides to focus on her job as a top news producer and surround herself with old friends and new.

For once, Bridget has everything completely under control. What could possibly go wrong? Then her love life takes a turn and Bridget meets a dashing American named Jack (Dempsey), the suitor who is everything Mr. Darcy is not.

The first two movies in the Bridget Jones film series have grossed over $544 million at the global box office and Bridget Jones's Baby really does look on course to be the biggest and most successful instalment to date.

It has been such a long wait for this third film to hit the big screen... but I think it is going to be a film that will not disappoint. We will have to wait and see just how much money it will gross at the box office.

Bridget Jones's Baby is released 16th September.
