Dallas Buyers Club

Dallas Buyers Club

Over the last few years we have seen Matthew McConaughey turn his career completely around; he has gone from the guy who liked to whip his shirt off at any given chance to a major acting force.

McCoanughey follows in the footsteps of Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, George Clooney and Brad Pitt, who have all broken out of the stereotypical roles that their looks bring them and tackle more complex an interesting roles.

Dallas Buyers Club sees McConaughey carry on that transition, as it is a film that comes hot off the heels of The Lincoln Lawyer, Magic Mike, Killer Joe and Mud, as he takes on the real life role of HIV sufferer Ron Woodroof.

Dallas Buyers Club is based on the story of Woodroof as he goes outside of the medical system that is failing him and other HIV/Aids sufferers and starts to give the right medication to the people who need it.

Matthew McConaughey has gone above and beyond the call of duty with this movie has he has dropped a whopping fifty pounds to play Woodroof. His performance has already been winning over critics and audiences on the festival circuit and he is being tipped as a Best Actor Oscar contender.

McConaughey has already picked up a Best Actor gong at the Gotham Award as well as picking up a prize at the Rome Film Festival earlier in the autumn.

Jared Leto is another actor to watch out for when they start handing out the major gongs as he could well be in the mix for Best Supporting Actor.

McConaughey and Leto are joined on the cast list by Jennifer Garner, Steve Zahn, Denis O’Hare and Kevin Rankin.

The movie sees Jean-Marc Vallee in the director’s chair as he teams up with McConaughey for the first time. Valle has been behind movies such as C.R.A.Z.Y. and The Young Victoria but this is his first film since Café de Flore.

Based on the incredible true story of Texan rodeo cowboy Ron Woodroof and his battle with the medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies after being diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1986.

Dallas Buyers Club looks set to be one of the most powerful movies that will be heading out way in the new year… and we all know how much the Academy loves a biopic performance.

Dallas Buyers Club is released 7th February 2014.
