Frozen

Frozen

2013 has been a fantastic year for film as we have been treated to top quality blockbusters, dramas, comedies and documentaries.

However, there is still four weeks until 2013 is over, and there are still some movies to get excited about… what will you be watching on the big screen this December?

- Frozen - released 6th December

A Disney movie is something that you should always get excited about, and the studio has delivered some real gems over the last few years. We have already seen Wreck It Ralph hit the big screen this year and Frozen will be looking to continue that great success.

Chris Buck has teamed up with Jennifer Lee for the first time to direct the film, while Lee has penned the screenplay; she also wrote the script for Wreck It Ralph.

Lee is making her directorial debut with this project, while Buck is returning to the animation genre for the first time since Surf’s Up back in 2007. He is no stranger to Disney have also directed Tarzan.

Frozen is inspired by the story The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen, and follows new heroine Princess Anna - voiced by Kristen Bell.

Bell leads and all-star voice cast as Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Santino Fontana, Josh Gad, Alan Tudyk and Ciaran Hinds are all on board.

Fearless optimist Anna (Bell) sets off on an epic journey - teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven - to find her sister Elsa (Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter.

Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf (Gad), Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

If you are looking for a film to enjoy with your family this festive period then look no further than Frozen, which looks set to be another Disney classic.

- Kill Your Darlings - released 6th December

Daniel Radcliff is one of the most exciting young British actors and this week we see him continue to move away from the Harry Potter image that made him a star.

Kill Your Darlings is the first big screen outing for Radcliffe since the huge success of The Woman In Black at the beginning of 2012, and this is a role that we have never seen him in before.

Radcliffe will take on the role of poet Allen Ginsberg as he teams up with first time filmmaker John Krokidas - this is a movie that has already played well on the festival circuit this autumn.

Set in the 1940’s during the early days of the literary revolution, Kill Your Darlings is a true crime thriller based on the previously untold story of a murder that implicated the men who went on to become the great poets of the Beat Generation; Allen Ginsberg, Lucien Carr, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs.

Some of the best young acting talent is on show in this film as Dane DeHaan, Ben Foster and Elizabeth Olsen join Radcliffe.

Radcliffe is an actor who continues to mix and match his roles, Kill Your Darlings kicks off a string of interesting and exciting projects for the young actor.

- Nebraska - released 6th December

I know that we are only in December, but the Oscars have been being talked about since the beginning of the autumn. One name that keeps on popping up time after time as a Best Actor possibility is Bruce Dern - he has already won a Best Actor gong at the Cannes Film Festival.

Nebraska sees him return to the big screen as he teams up with director Alexander Payne for the very first time. The movie sees

Payne back in the director’s chair for the first time since the success of The Descendants back in 2012. This time around, Payne has not penned the screenplay himself, but has instead brought Bob Nelson’s work to life.

Payne is famed for making character driven movies and films about relationships, that trend is set to continue with Nebraska as this project focuses on a estranged father and son.

Nebraska follows a father and son steer the American road comedy into a vanishing Midwest on the trail of a dubious fortune - and in search of an understanding of each other that once seemed impossible.

Bruce Dern and Will Forte play that father and son, in what could well be career-defining performances from both. Nebraska is set to be a major Oscar contender come the beginning of next year.

- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smug - released 13th December

This December there is only one movie that everyone is talking about… of course, I am talking about The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. I have personally been looking forward to this film after I stepped out of cinema after watching An Unexpected Journey twelve months ago.

Peter Jackson will once again take audiences back to Middle Earth for the second of three instalments - if the trailer is anything to go by it will be an action packed ride.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventures of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

There are many familiar faces on the cast list such as Martin Freeman and Richard Armitage, but there are also some new names to watch out for. Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lily and Luke Evans are all on board, while we get a better look at Lee Pace as Thranduil.

The first instalment of The Hobbit took more that $1 billion at the global box office, and The Desolation of Smaug promises to be just as successful.

- Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues - released 20th December

We were first introduced to the character of Ron Burgundy back in 2004, nearly ten years later Will Ferrell and co are back.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues sees Adam McKay back in the director’s chair and he has once again teamed up with Ferrell to pen the screenplay.

With the 70's behind him, San Diego's top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Ferrell), returns to the news desk in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

Also back for more are Ron’s co- anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Carell), man on the street Brian Fontana (Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (Koechner) - All of whom won’t make it easy to stay classy... while taking the nation’s first 24-hour news channel by storm.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues has been one of the most anticipated comedy movies of the year, and one of the most popular characters of the last decade make his return.

- All Is Lost - released 26th December.

When it comes to Oscar nominations, Robert Redford could well be in the mix in the new year for his solo performance in All Is Lost.

If you are looking to get away from the family on Boxing Day then make sure it is All Is Lost that you see at the cinema as It feature a powerful performance from Redford.

All Is Lost is the first directorial outing for Chandor since the success of Margin Call; it is also only the second feature film of his career; Chandor has also penned the screenplay.

All Is Lost follows a man who is lost and sea and finds himself struggling to survive as he fails to raise help.

This is one of the most powerful performances of Redford’s career as his character stares morality in the face - he could well find himself in the Oscar race.

Other movies to watch out for this month include Oldboy, Homefront, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Walking With Dinosaurs.
