Hulk

Hulk

Ever since Mark Ruffalo took over the role of Hulk in Avengers Assemble, there have been calls from fans to give him a solo movie.

At first, it seemed that Marvel Studios were not too keen to give Bruce Banner a run out in a solo project, but they appear to be warming to the idea.

Mark Ruffalo revealed in an interview with Digital Spy, that the possibility could now be on the table.

He said: "I think they are, for the first time, entertaining the idea of it. When we did The Avengers it was basically 'No!', and now there is some consideration for it."

So the question remains, do you want to see a solo Hulk film? And just how successful would it be at the box office?

I suppose Mark Ruffalo was a surprise choice when he landed the role of Hulk in Avengers Assemble, but it proved to me a very smart move. Ruffalo really did take the character of Bruce Banner and make it his own.

The motion capture process used to bring Hulk to life also really helped Ruffalo put his stamp on this character: you can really see Ruffalo when we see Hulk do his thing.

Filming is already underway on Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it has been hinted that we are going to be seeing more of Banner and Hulk in the highly anticipated sequel.

There have also been some rumours knocking around that Banner and Black Widow are going to have a bit of a thing, but I am desperately hoping that this is NOT true. Could a bigger role in Age of Ultron lead into solo movie?

I personally would love to see Hulk back in a film of his own, as he really is a fascinating double character.

We learnt in Avengers Assemble that he was partially in control of Hulk, and the fact that Banner was always angry was his secret. This could be quite an interesting area to explore.

Despite all of that, it is the fact that it is Ruffalo in this role that makes a solo movie even more appealing.

For one, Ruffalo really is a terrific actor, and with the right script, Hulk could be into a truly intriguing character: which is something that the Ed Norton movie did try to do.

Now that Hulk is part of the Avengers he could be shown as more of a hero than ever before - rather than just a wild beast who is out of control.

However, how would the film perform at the box office? Since the release of Avengers Assemble, Marvel films really have done the business at the box office. Iron Man 3 grossed over $1 billion while Thor: The Dark World & Captain America: The Winter Soldier both performed better than their first films.

I think the real test will be Guardians of the Galaxy, as we will get to see how audiences react to a brand new franchise. Having said that, Hulk is not a new franchise, and by the time Age of Ultron hits the big screen he will be a well-developed character: something I think will work in any solo movie's favour.

Whether we get a solo UK movie remains to be seen, but I do think that it would be a box office hit.

Marvel is currently sketching out Phase Three of films, which will kick off next summer with Ant Man. We will definitely be getting Captain America 3 and it looks like Doctor Strange. But it would be great to see Black Widow get a first solo film as well.
