Lexus Drive-in Movies
With the covid19 pandemic in full swing and so many entertainment venues including cinemas being closed to the general public for months during lockdown its been pretty bleak on the movie scene. Even now as many are throwing open their doors but there is still a marked reluctance by people to return to the indoors to get their big screen fix.
But during these strange times there has quietly been a resurgence in the fortunes of the ‘drive in’ cinema. A staple of American life in the 70’s and 80’s - who can forget Danny and Sandie in Grease flirting at the drive in.
Well brace yourself the 2020 drive-in has arrived, an upgrade from the 1980s teen movie setup they boast huge LED screens, live stand-up comedy, live DJ sets and roller-skating waiters laden with popcorn and drinks. Warm the engine up, no need to worry about social distancing in your own motor let’s get out there.
We went one step further getting the chance to visit one of the Lexus Drive and Dine events taking place across London, the South East and Midlands during July and August, run by Pub in the Park, the UK’s biggest food and drink tour, with food provided by Michelin starred chef and Lexus ambassador, Tom Kerridge.
What an evening it turned out to be. On arrival we were directed to our parking bay there we were given a picnic box that contained our meals, we placed our drinks ordervia the app, which were delivered to our car. All of this as is the need during these times was delivered by waiters in full PPE.
The food was fabulous, and a perfect forerunner to the movie entertainment to follow - Nicole Kidman’s classic movie Moulin Rouge.
What a great night with the added comfort of relaxing in your own car while dining, enjoying a drink, capped off with a classic movie. I can thoroughly recommend the experience and pandemic or not – what a great night out.

The menu includes 5 Bean Burritos, Chicken Tikka Masala and picnic boxes, with all food ordered in advance and delivered to the car by staff in PPE.
