Tom Hardy who plays Forrest Bondurant in the film

Despite the fact that there’s a whole bunch of movies coming out in 2012, the same select few seem to have made most people’s ‘must see’ lists.

For whatever reason this may be, the result is that some very promising films appear to have been ignored, one of which being The Wettest County.

Set in Virginia during the American Depression era, the feature length film follows three bootlegging brothers known as the Bondurants. It’s an adaptation of the 2008 novel, The Wettest County in the World, written by Matt Bondurant. The book, like the film then, was based on a true story as Matt is the grandson of one of the Bondurant brothers.

The film has been directed by John Hillcoats who previously directed The Road (2009) and The Proposition (2005). The screenplay is written by Nick Cave who also wrote the dialogue for The Proposition.

What's more exciting about the historical crime drama though is that it features an impressive cast, including Shia LaBeouf (Jack Bondurant), Tom Hardy (Forrest Bondurant), Jason Clarke (Howard Bondurant), Gary Oldman (Floyd Banner), Jessica Chastain (Maggie) and Guy Pearce (Special Agent Charlie Rakes).

The motion picture was due to be released on April 20 however was recently been put back to August 31. Cinemablend.com reports that the reason for the delay is that the film would’ve had to compete against a number of highly anticipated movies if it were come out on the original date. Amongst those are Lock-Out, House at the End of the Street and Disney’s, Chimpanzee.

Cinema can often dry up during the summer months but The Wettest County will hopefully make 2012 an exception. There are definitely high hopes for it, especially with a cast like it has, so it’s well worth making a note of in your diaries.
