George Clooney

George Clooney

Now I don’t know about you but I have been a fan of George Clooney for many years and, much like a fine wine he has got better and better with age.

That has been demonstrated further this year with his great central performance in Alexander Payne’s The Descendants - which has seen him pick up another Best Actor Oscar nomination.

Now I know that there have been some great male performances this year but it really is time that Clooney got his hands on the big prize.

So here at FemaleFirst we are throwing our support behind the actor just a couple of days before be walks down the red carpet on the biggest night on the movie calendar.

Now Clooney has always been a bit of a heavyweight when it comes to the movie industry but more recently he has delivered some real powerhouse performances.

While he may have picked up a Best Supporting Actor gong for his performance in Syriana it was Michael Clayton and Up In the Air that really grabbed all the headlines.

Despite Best Actor nods for both of those excellent turns he was overlooked - losing to out to Daniel Day Lewis and Jeff Bridges.

And so a third nomination in just five years shows the constituently great performances that Clooney has been churning out/

But The Descendants is one of his best roles to date as he plays a father (Matt King) who is struggling to cope after his wife was in an accident.

And King is the heart and soul of this movie as he struggles to be the parent that his kids needs whilst coming to terms with his wife’s injuries and unfaithfulness.

This is a movie of self-discovery as King realises that he has perhaps not been the father and the husband that he could have been while he gets to know his daughters all over again.

The Descendants really is one of the highlights of Clooney’s career as he develops an emotional as well as humours performance.

Clooney already has a Golden Globe in his back pocket for his performance but he faces a tough battle from Jean Dujardin if he wants to add the Best actor Oscar to his collection.

Oscar winners are revealed 26th February
