G.I. Joe: Retaliation

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

The 2013 movie year is almost over, and while there have been so many films to applaud and praise, there have also been some films that have been incredibly disappointing.

Every year with get movies that weren’t what we expected, that disappointed and that were down right rubbish - and there have been quite a few films that have left us cold over the last twelve months.

We take a look at some of the worst movies that we have had to endure in 2013... And boy were there plenty to choose from. We start with G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra hit the big screen for the first time back in   and was one of the most disappointing blockbusters that I saw that year. Quite why they decided to make a second film is a bit of a mystery… they perhaps shouldn’t have bothered.

Jon M. Chu was in the director’s chair this time around and he has brought together a great action cast including new faces Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. You can through as many action stars at a film as you want, but if the script is poor - which in this case it definitely is - it cannot be saved.

Here in lies the major problem for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the script has tried to pack so many action sequences and set pieces in that the writers have forgotten to develop a story and characters.

Not only does the story not make sense, but there isn’t one. The characters just jump from one fight and shoot out until another until the credits roll.

On paper, the G.I. Joe character is quite an intriguing one, and it is hard to believe that the movies have got it so spectacularly wrong, not once but twice.

The likes of Johnson and Willis do their best with what little they have - they both do add some humour to proceedings and that does make the watch a little less painful.

Sadly, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is a dumb blockbuster film, which has been made for no other reason than they were able to do so.

There have been better blockbusters and better action movies on the big screen in 2013, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation really should be given a really wide berth.

This is an hour and a half of my life that I will never get back and I would have been better spending it doing something other than watching this drivel.
