Willow

Willow

Willow hit the big screen back in 1988 and this week it is coming to Blu-Ray for the first time.

To celebrate the release of the movie we have taken a look at some of the greatest kid's films that have ever graced the big screen - they really don't make them like they use to.

- Willow

We are going to kick off with Willow was which a fantasy movie directed by Ron Howard.

The movie introduced audiences to actor Warwick Davis as he teamed up with Val Kilmer for this action/adventure.

While Willow isn't without it's flaws the film is a great mix of action, character development and special effects and has become one of the best children's movies.

The film is perhaps looking a little dated now but there is a real charm to it and it has become a cult hit over the years.

- The Goonies

The Goonies is one of my personal favourite kid's movies and a film that I watched a lot as I was growing up.

The Goonies remains one of the best kids movies of all time because it is charming and it's fun.

But this movie delivers a powerful message of the strength of family and friendship and what lengths we will go to protect those we care about most.

But at the heart of this movie is childhood innocence and the willingness to believe that stories of pirates and lost treasure could be true - something that we can all relate to.

The Goonies is an entertaining and funny movie and is help in high regard by people of a certain age.

- E.T.

When you think of kid's films there is one that stands head and shoulders above the rest... and that is of course E.T.

E.T. remains one of the greatest movies of all time and is certainly the best piece of work from director Steven Spielberg.

Yes this is a sci-fi movie but at it's heart E.T. is a a story about friendship and acceptance - Elliot is ready to accept E.T. for what he is and together they forge an unbreakable bond.

E.T. is as powerful a story today as it was when it was released thirty years ago and the themes that exist within the film are as relevant now as they where then.

E.T. is a magnificent piece of work and there has been no other children's film that has ever rivaled it.

- Toy Story

Toy Story is one of the most iconic movies of all time as it changed the face of animation when it was released back in 1995.

It is hard to believe that this movie is almost twenty years old but it was a film that introduced us to the power of Pixar and the CGI animated movie.

Toy Story was an intelligent and sophisticated buddy movie that really highlighted the potential of the animation genre with these new techniques.

This is another movie that highlighted the themes of acceptance and friendship as Buzz and Woody had to overcome their differences to save toys from evil next door neighbour Sid.

With the release of two more movies over the years Toy Story has become one of the biggest and greatest animation franchise of all time.

- Mary Poppins

It was back in 1964 when Mary Poppins first hit the big screen and Julie Andrews took on the title role.

Walt Disney were behind the adaptation of the P. L. Travers novel and turned it into one of the most loved musicals of all time.

Like most Disney movies Mary Poppins is a film that really does weave it's magic as this really is an enchanting story from start to finish.

Andrews is terrific in the leading role as she brings s real charm and warmth to this character.

Mary Poppins is a movie that has endured over the years and is just as loved now as it was when it was released.

- The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is a movie that is over sixty years old - it was released back in 1939 - and yet it is still a film that thrills audiences of all ages.

Warner Bros was behind the big screen adaptation of the L. Frank Baum classic tale and it remains a true classic.

The Wizard of Oz was a real spectacle of a movie when it was released as it moved between black and white and colour and back again.

This is a movie that tells of the importance of friendship and family and it is told in an incredibly enchanting way.
