Fantastic Four

2015 has been another great year if you are a superhero film fan and this week sees another hit the big screen... of course, I am talking about the release of Fantastic Four.

The reboot of the popular franchise sees Josh Trank in the director's chair, while Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B Jordan, and Jamie Bell take over the roles of Reed Richard, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm.

The superhero film genre is a popular one here at FemaleFirst and we are looking back at some of the best posters that we have been treated to over the years.

- Hellboy (2004)

It is hard to believe that Hellboy is a movie that is over ten years old... yes, it really was back in 2004 when it hit the big screen. The movie saw Guillermo del Toro in the director's chair, while Ron Perlman took on the title role for the first time.

As you can imagine, there were a whole host of posters designed for the release of the movie, but it is the hand-drawn poster of Drew Struzan that was one of the standout pieces of artwork.

I love the hand-drawn style and it is something that we don't see too much of in modern day movie artwork. Of all of the solo posters that were created for Hellboy this is the one that really stood out and was created by The Cimarron Group.

- The Dark Knight (2008)

A whole host of Batman movies have hit the big screen over the years, but - in my opinion - The Dark Knight remains the best. The movie saw Christopher Nolan at the helm of his second Batman film, which came three years after the success of Batman Begins.

The Dark Knight saw the re-introduction of the Joker and Heath Ledger cast in this iconic role. At first, Ledger was not a popular choice but it turned out to be casting gold.

And it is the Joker that takes centre stage in this terrific posters, which is just one that was designed by BLT Communications, LLC. The Joker has a real flair for the theatrical in this movie and that really comes through in this poster.

The Dark Knight

- Iron Man (2008)

Marvel is one of the biggest studios when it comes to superhero movies and the Marvel Cinematic Universe was kicked off back in 2008 with the release of Iron Man.

Jon Favreau was in the director's chair for the film, while this was the movie that resurrected Robert Downey Jr's career. Can you believe that Tom Cruise was almost cast in the role of Tony Stark.

Iron Man had a huge number of terrific posters but it was this teaser artwork that really is my favourite. It is the poster that really introduces us to the character that would go on to be the driving force of the Marvel series. Once again, BLT Communications, LLC was behind the poster's design.

- Avengers Assemble (2012)

Sticking with Marvel, it was 2012 when we saw Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo team up as the Avengers for the first time - taking on the roles of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye and the Hulk.

This was a tricky project for Marvel and writer/director Joss Whedon, as they had to balance a series of major characters and great actors as well as delivering an action packed story... needless to say, the film was a triumph and remains my favourite Marvel film to date.

I love this poster in particular as it brought all of the Avengers together for the first time.

- The Wolverine (2013)

Wolverine is one of the most popular superhero characters and was the role that made Hugh Jackman a star - he has played this character since 2000 and is the only actor to appear in all of the X-Men movies.

The Wolverine was the second solo film for this character and was released back in 2013. The movie saw James Mangold in the director's chair and was set mainly in Japan.

And it is the setting of the film that inspired the design of this great poster - which was one in a series that was created this way by BLT Communications, LLC.

The Wolverine

- Iron Man 3 (2013)

In 2013, the third Iron Man film hit the big screen and saw Tony Stark struggling to cope with events of the battle of New York at the end of Avengers Assemble.

Once again, we were treated to a range of group and solo posters, but it is this one of Tony Stark that I like the most.

Designed by BLT Communications, LLC, this poster shows the Tony Stark/Iron Man struggle that is going on and that needs to be resolved if he is to save the world once again.

- X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

I have always been a huge fan of the X-Men film series and was delighted to see Bryan Singer back in the director's chair for X-Men: Days of Future Past last year.

The movie saw the movie mix the franchise's original characters/actors with those introduced in First Class - resulting in a cast list that included Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Jennifer Lawrence.

It was the meeting of these two sets of actors that inspired these great posters. Stewart & McAvoy and McKellen & Fassbender played Charles Xavier and Magneto at two different stages in their lives - and you can see both actors in the two posters.

- Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Chris Evans reprised the role of Captain America last year in The Winter Soldier, which was the second standalone film for this character. It was the first time that the solo film had explored Steve Rodgers in the modern day world.

This was one of the early teaser posters for the movie and sees Rodgers standing looking out over Washington and S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters - which was to be the setting for the film's final act.

BLT Communications, LLC was behind the design of the poster, which showed Rodgers as the action hero that he had become.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Other great superhero posters include Batman (1989), Spider-Man (2002), and Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).

Fantastic Four is released 6th August.
