Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence is the actress who is on everyone’s lips at the moment after scooping the Best Actress Oscar earlier this year for her superb performance in Silver Linings Playbook.

The movie was a big screen adaptation of the novel of the same name by Matthew Quick and saw Lawrence play a young widow who is battling with some problems.

Silver Linings Playbook showed off a very different side to Lawrence as an actress as she truly shined in the role - winning over critics and audiences. She picked up a whole of awards for her performance before scooping the big on Oscar night.

And with the projects that Lawrence has in the pipeline over the next twelve months it seems that she is going to avoid the Best Actress Oscar curse.

Not only have a whole host of Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress Oscars winners gone on to split from husbands and partners after winning the major gong but quite a few of them have made very dubious role choices.

Halle Berry won her Oscar for Monster’s Ball back in 2001 - we all remember her slightly over the top acceptance speech - but won a Razzie only a couple of years later when she starred in the god awful Catwoman.

What possessed her to take on the role is anyone’s guess but the movie was universally panned and performed incredibly poorly at the box office.

While she did enjoy box office success with the X-Men franchise roles in Perfect Stranger and things We Lost In The Fire were unable to recapture the success of Monster’s Ball.

Charlize Theron gave a stunning performance as Aileen Wuornos in Monster - a movie where she was almost unrecognisable after undergoing a physical transformation for the film.

She was the runaway winner on the award’s circuit that year before going on to win her first Best Actress Oscar

But she struggled to repeat that success straight after her win as Head in the Clouds went largely unnoticed while Aeon Flux was panned by just about everyone.

Nicole Kidman is also guilty of making some rather dubious choices after she won the Best actress Oscar for her performance in The Hours.

A string of movies, including Dogville, The Human Stain, Bewitched and The Invasion that has all been heavily criticised by the critics.

But it seems that Jennifer Lawrence could well avoid these problems as she will be back on the big screen this autumn with blockbuster The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Where blockbusters for Berry and Theron fell a little flat there will be no such problem with Catching Fire as it is already one of the most eagerly anticipated films of 2013. Lawrence will reprise the role of Kaniss Everdeen in the film and it promises to be bigger and more successful that the first movie last summer.

She has also completed work on Serena, a film that will see her reunite with her Silver Linings Playbook co-star Bradley Cooper, and Devil You Know.

She will also be working with Cooper for a third time as the pair reunite with Silver Linings Playbook director David O’Russell.

American Hustle is already being ear-marked as a movie to watch as a possible awards contender - so could awards glory be just around the corner for Lawrence once again?

The movie will be set in the seventies and tells the true story of a con artist and his partner who are forced the help federal agents.

Christian Bale, Robert De Niro, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Michael Pena are all on board for what is set to be an exciting and thrilling movie.

As if all that is not enough she will also be reprising the role of Mystique in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The movie is directed by Bryan Singer and is the sequel to X-Men: First Class.

Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most in demand actresses in Hollywood as her versatility allows her to move from bit budget blockbusters to compelling dramas. I think it is safe to say that the Oscar curse will pass her by.
