Jennifer Lawrence could well be one of the actresses in the Oscar mix at the beginning of next year as she is set to return to the big screen with new film Joy.

Jennifer Lawrence in Joy

Lawrence's performance is already surrounded in Oscar whispers as she reunites with filmmaker David O. Russell. This is their third film project together and comes after the success of Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.

Silver Linings Playbook earnt Lawrence her first Best Actress Oscar and she received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her work in American Hustle. Could she make it three out of three with Joy?

The movie sees Lawrence take on the title role in the true-life story of Joy Mangano, who took control of her life to become an inventor, an entrepreneur and create her own business empire with the Miracle Mop.

Lawrence looks set to give another terrific performance in Joy and you can see her in action in the brand new trailer for the film:

It is great to see Russell back in the director's chair - he has also penned the screenplay and will serve as the film's producer.

He has also brought together a wonderful cast as Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Édgar Ramírez, Elisabeth Röhm, and Isabella Rossellini all-star alongside Lawrence.

Joy is the wild story of a family across four generations centred on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise facing a world of unforgiving commerce.

Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy's inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces.

It is always exciting when you know Lawrence is going to be returning to the big screen as she always delivers a wonderful performance. Joy is set to be one of the early must-see films of 2016 and it is a movie that could well be in the Oscar mix.

Joy is released 1st January.
