Joel Kinnaman in RoboCop

Joel Kinnaman is an actor who has made his name more recently in TV, but now he is set to explode on to the big screen as he takes over the role of Alex Murphy in the remake of RoboCop.

Kinnaman is no stranger to the big screen with roles in Safe House and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo under his belt, but over the next twelve months we are set to see his star rocket.

Kinnaman kicked off his acting career back in back in 2002 as he stared in a string of Swedish projects such as Den osynlige and six films in the Johan Falk series.

But it was to be Easy Money in 2010 that was to grab everyone’s attention as Kinnaman teamed up with director Daniel Espinosa - Easy Money is a movie that came to UK cinemas earlier this year.

The movie was a big screen adaptation of the novel of the same name by Jens Lapidus and saw Kinnaman take on the role of a man who was leading a double life.

This acclaimed performance from the actor saw doors in the U.S. open to him, as roles in Safe House and The Darkest Hour followed.

TV success followed in 2011 as the U.S. remake of hit Danish crime series The Killing hit screens - a series that was met with acclaim.

Kinnaman landed the role of Stephen Holder in the show, alongside Mireille Enos; who played the central character of Sarah Linden. The Killing was a hard hitting drama that follows the two homicide detectives as they try to solve a series of murders.

The first season of the show was met well by critics and audiences, and The Killing would run for two more series.

But 2014 is set to be a huge year for Kinnaman as he will lead an all star cast as RoboCop returns to the big screen.

Kinnaman will take over the role of Alex Murphy, a cop seriously wounded in the line of duty and is turned into a part man, part robot crime fighter,  in the Jose Padilha directed film.

The actor is joined on the cast list by Abbie Cornish, Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson, for what is set to be the biggest movie role of his career to date.

RoboCop is already one of the most anticipated early films of 2014  and is set to be one of the most action packed.,

Kinnaman is also set to be part of the all star cast of Knight of Cups; a movie that sees Terrence Malick return to the director’s chair.

A Malick movie is always something to look forward to and he has brought together a cast that includes Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett and Antonio Banderas.

And, as if all that wasn’t enough, Kinnaman is currently filming Child 44, which his based on the novel of the same name by Tom Rob Smith.

The movie follows a disgraced MGB agent who is dispatched to solve a series of child murders and will see Kinnaman star alongside Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace.

Kinnaman has already enjoyed an acting career that has spanned over a decade, but 2014 is set to be the year that will really put this actor on the map. He is one that you really need to keep an eye on over the next twelve months.

RoboCop is released 7th February 2014.
