As the majority of Brits snoozed away, Disney revealed a whole slew of new additions to their upcoming slate of releases, with some of the most exciting coming as part of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Production and Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Here are all of the major announcements and what you can expect to see from the studios in the coming months and years…

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Production

A star-studded bunch of original movies were confirmed for streaming platform Disney+, with one of the most exciting coming in the form of an official announcement for Hocus Pocus 2

The much-loved classic will finally get its sequel, with Adam Shankman set to direct. Original stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are expected to return, but that hasn't yet been confirmed.

Meanwhile, Zac Efron will star in a reboot of Three Men and a Baby, whilst Kenya Barris and Gabrielle Union are to front a reboot of Cheaper by the Dozen.

Sister Act fans also got some good news, with Whoopi Goldberg on board to produce the next chapter in the franchise alongside Tyler Perry.

Live-action will meet animation with Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers starring John Mulaney, whilst Robert Zemeckis will direct a live-action-animated hybrid in Pinocchio, starring Tom Hanks.

Jude Law will join the world of Peter Pan & Wendy as Captain Hook, with Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, whilst Amy Adams returns to her much-loved role of Giselle in Disenchanted, a sequel to 2007 hit film Enchanted.

Elsewhere, live-action biographical films set for the service include one about NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo called Greek Freak, as well as projects about Keanon Lowe and Chris Paul.

New animated takes on fan-favourite 20th Century Studios' films Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild (starring Simon Pegg) and Night at the Museum are also in the works.

Feature films Jungle Cruise, Cruella, The Little Mermaid and a prequel to the live-action The Lion King were all also teased.

Walt Disney Animation Studios

Several announcements came from Walt Disney Animation Studios, including the highlighting of upcoming feature film Encanto, which will feature original music from Emmy, GRAMMY and Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda. The movie is set to come to cinemas in November 2021.

Previously-revealed film Raya and the Last Dragon was also given a mention, with a release date set for March 2021, simultaneously dropping on Disney+ Premier Access and cinemas.

Several new animated series were announced for Disney+, including Baymax!, Zootopia+, Tiana and Moana: The Series.

Walt Disney Animation Studios are also collaborating with Pan-African comic book entertainment company Kugali, for the production of Disney+ animated series Iwájú.
