Maleficent is one of the movies that I am really looking forward to - Angelina Jolie really does look the business as the title character.
Maleficent is just one of the live-action fairytales that will be coming our way this year, and Disney have released a terrific new trailer.
Jolie looks every bit the part as she takes on one of Disney's movie iconic villains - take a look at the new trailer:
Maleficent will be the first big screen outing for Jolie since The Tourist - apart from lending her voice to Kung Fu Panda 2 - as she teams up with director Robert Stromberg.
Stromberg is making his feature film directorial debut with this film, while Paul Dini and Linda Woolverton have penned the screenplay.
A terrific cast has also been assembled, as Jolie is joined by Juno Temple, Sharlto Copley, Peter Capaldi, Miranda Richardson, Imelda Staunton, Sam Riley, and Elle Fanning; Fanning will take on the role of Princess Aurora.
A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land.
Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal - an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone.
Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom - and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.
We all know the story of Sleeping Beauty so well, but I am looking forward to seeing it be told from a very different perspective.
Maleficent is released 30th May.
