Matt Damon

Matt Damon and Steven Soderbergh are another fantastic actor/director partnership that has spanned seven projects.

The duo have gone from crime/comedy to drama and biopic during their projects together.

Their partnership started back in 2001 when Damon starred alongside George Clooney and Brad Pitt in a remake of Ocean's Eleven.

The movie followed Danny Ocean and his team as they attempt to rob three Las Vegas casinos at once.

Damon took on the role of pickpocket Linus Caldwellin the a movie that was both a critical and commercial success.

The movie not only kicked off a great partnership between Damon and Soderbergh but the Ocean's trilogy.

Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen both followed in 2005 and 2007; it has gone on to become a billion dollar franchise.

Damon made an appearance in Soderbergh's Che: Part Two before teaming up with the director again for The Informant.

The Informant is a biographical/crime movie that was based on the novel The Informant by Kurt Eichenwald.

Damon took on the role of Mark Whitacre in the film who was involved as a whistle-blower in the lysine price-fixing conspiracy of the mid-1990s.

While the movie did receive good reviews upon release, it did struggle at the box office. At the end of its theatrical run the movie had grossed over $41.7 million; however it did make back its budget.

In 2011 Damon team up with Soderbergh again he joined the ensemble film Contagion.

Damon, Marion Cotillard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet and Jude Law all starred in a movie about a lethal virus that spreads around the globe claiming thousands of lives.

The thriller showed Soderbergh at his filmmaking best as he intertwined a series of different stories into a fast paced and brilliant movie.

Damon also gives one of the best performances in the film as a father who is just trying to protect his daughter.

Soderbergh is set to take some time away from the director's chair and it seemed only fitting that Damon, along with Michael Douglas, should work on his final project.

Behind the Candelabra was another biopic project for the director in a movie that looked at the life of Liberace and his relationship with Scott Thorson.

Douglas played Liberace in the film, while Damon took on the role of Thorson; the movie is based on a by Thorson himself.

The movie has been a critical smash and the central performances of both Douglas and Damon have been heavily praised.

Whether we will ever see Soderbergh back in the director's chair remains to be seen. But during his years as a director his partnership with Damon has been one of the best.

The Lone Ranger is released 9th August.
