Dead Man Down

Dead Man Down

There is a great mix of movies set to hit the big screen this May from blockbusters to comedy as well as animation and documentary.

We are super excited about a whole host of the movies that are heading to cinemas over the next few weeks and we take a look at some of the films that are not to be missed.

Dead Man Down - released 3rd May

Niels Arden Oplev grabbed everyone's attention when he brought the adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo to the big screen.

Oplev is back with his first American feature film as he teams up with Colin Farrell and reunites with Noomi Rapace for Dead Man Down.

If there is one movie that you are set to check out this week then make sure it is the action packed Dead Man Down - which is being called one of the best revenge films of 2013.

Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace star as two strangers who are irresistibly drawn to one another by their mutual desire for revenge.

Star Trek Into Darkness - released 9th May

The excitement around Star Trek Into Darkness has been building and building and now we are just a week away from release.

J.J. Abrams is back in the director's chair as he brings us the latest instalment in his rebooted Star Trek franchise. Now I was a huge fan of the 2009 film and this new film looks set to be bigger and better.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban are all back while Benedict Cumberbatch is the big new addition to the cast list - it really does look like he is going to make a fantastic villain.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organisation has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

Propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Mud - released 10th May

Matthew McConaughey has taken his acting career in a completely different direction in the last couple of years as he has taken on meatier role and is no longer the pretty guy who just takes his shirt off.

Killer Joe and Magic Mike have shown that he really does have some acting chops and Mud looks set to continues that trend as he teams up with director Jeff Nichols.

Nichols has penned the screenplay for the film while Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Paulson and Sam Shepard are all on board.

Mud is an adventure about two boys, Ellis and his friend Neckbone, who find a man named Mud hiding out on an island in the Mississippi.

He says he is planning to meet and escape with the love of his life, Juniper, who is waiting for him in town. Skeptical but intrigued, Ellis and Neckbone agree to help him.

The Great Gatsby - released 16th May

It has been a fair old while since we have seen Baz Luhrmann in the director's chair but this month he is back with an adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel.

Luhrmann's movies always tend to be visually lavish affair and this promises to be not different - all of the trailers we have been treated to so far have looked fantastic.

The movie reunites Luhrmann with Leonardo DiCaprio while Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher and Tobey Maguire are all also on board.

Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan.

It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits.

Fast & Furious 6 - released 17th May.

It was 2001 when we were introduced to the Fast and the Furious franchise for the first time... and over a decade later and the sixth movie is about to released.

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are back as Dom and Brian while Justin Lin is in the director's chair for the final time.

Diesel and Walker are not the only familiar faces on the cast list as Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster and Tyrese Gibson are all back while Luke Evans and Gina Carano are the new faces to watch out for.

The franchise took a different path last time as Fast 5 brought in a heist movie element and that proved to be a big success. But Fast & Furious 6 is set to be the biggest and most daring movie yet.

Agent Hobbs enlists the aid of Dom and team to help bring a rival gang, led by Owen Shaw, to justice in exchange for clean records.

A seventh film is set to begin filming this summer but Lin will not be at the helm this time around.

The Hangover Part III - released 24th May

The Hangover is one of the surprise franchise of the last few years as it enjoyed mammoth box office success.

But the franchise is set to be brought to a close this summer with the third and final movie.

Todd Phillips is back in the director's chair while Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha are also bask as Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug.

This time, there’s no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.

This is one of the most talked about comedy movies of the year so far as the franchise is set to go out with a huge bang.

Byzantium - released 31st May

The vampire movie may have lost a little bit of it's umph in recent years because of the below par Twilight Saga but Byzantium could well be the movie that gets the genre back on track.

Director Neil Jordan returns to this genre - he helmed Interview with the Vampire - as he be brought Moira Buffini's play to the big screen.

The movie sees Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan join forces for the first time as mother and daughter while Sam Riley and Caleb Landry Jones are also on the cast list.

Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium.

Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 Years ago and survive on human blood.

As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.

Other films that are also not to be missed include Epic 3D, The Big Wedding, Village At The End of the World and Deadfall.
