There are already so many 2016 movies that I am looking forward to and Midnight Special looks set to be another as Michael Shannon returns to the big screen.

Midnight Special

Midnight Special

Shannon is a bit of an under-rated actor and Midnight Special is just one of a range of film projects that we are going to see him feature in over the next twelve months. If you are a Shannon fan, you really are in for a major treat in 2016.

Midnight Special sees Shannon reunite with filmmaker Jeff Nichols as he returns to the director's chair for his fourth feature film project.

Midnight Special sees Nichols and Shannon reunite for their second project together; they did work together on Take Shelter. This is also the first film for Nichols since the success of Mud. As well as being in the director's chair, Nichols has also penned the screenplay.

We are going to have to wait until April before Midnight Special hits the big screen, but the brand new trailer for the film has arrived. Check it out:

Shannon is set to take on the central role and is joined on the cast list by Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst, and Sam Shepard.

Shannon will take on the role of a father who goes on the run with his young son after he learns his child possesses special powers.

I am a huge fan of Nichols as a filmmaker - both Take Shelter and Mud were terrific - and it is great to see him back and working with great actors once again.

Midnight Special is released 15th April 2016.
