The Black Adam film is gaining more momentum every week it seems, and we can’t wait to see the finished product in light of all these exciting casting announcements.

The Star Trek franchise is also reportedly booting up again, as a new mystery movie has set its release date already.

Black Adam film casts Baby-Sitters Club actor in key role

The upcoming DC movie, with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as the titular character Black Adam, has been throwing information at us like there’s no tomorrow.

Casting choices have been revealed every now and again, perhaps not in their entirety, but the actor’s name alone can sometimes spark discussions as who they could be playing.

Black Adam is also set to introduce the Justice Society of America (JSA) to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), with the cast so far including Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate.

THR has reported that Bodhi Sabongui, one of the stars of The Baby-Sitters Club, has been cast in a new yet secretive role within the approaching film that will supposedly begin filming this month (April 2021), due to an Instagram post by Johnson.

So while we know nothing of his part in the film, Sabongui’s potential role will no doubt be a talking point for DC fans – especially since the young actor had a cameo in the DC show Legends of Tomorrow.

Paul Dano is playing Spielberg’s father in the director’s autobiography

Everyone knows Steven Spielberg, right? He has directed iconic films such as Jurassic Park and Jaws, but it seems now is the time for his life to be in front of the camera, rather than behind it.

The film, still untitled, will be based loosely around Spielberg’s childhood in Arizona. It will be co-written by Spielberg, of course, as well as Tony Kushner, who are also both producing along with Kristie Macosko Krieger.

Dano has had a long and rather extensive Hollywood career already, considering he is only 36. Many may know the actor from films such as Little Miss Sunshine and 12 Years a Slave.

As the latest addition to an already stellar cast, including Michelle Williams as Spielberg’s mother, and Seth Rogan as one of the director’s favourite uncles - Dano will be taking on the role of a character based on Spielberg’s father.

The biopic is set to be produced by Spielberg’s production company, Amblin Entertainment, and will begin the filming process this summer with an intended released for 2022.

Netflix has signed a deal with Sony to stream their films after theatrical runs

Netflix have definitely stepped up their game in recent months with their amazing selection of recent films being added to their already massive collection; now they’ve done it again by signing a deal with Sony.

Many streaming services have had a lot to offer us. Due to the current global pandemic, they were seizing lots of big films in order to make them the best; Netflix, Amazon Prime and HBO Max are among those who fought for the best films to include on their services.

Netflix pinched some great movies last year, as Enola Holmes and Lovebirds were added to their roster. It seems that film companies are in a pinch at the moment, and have been for a while, as theatrical releases may be a risk for some companies.

So, they could either wait to release their films into cinemas, or sell their movies to streaming platforms and make a profit that way. It appears that many studios settled on the latter, and now Sony have joined the list of companies wanting to get their films onto streaming services after theatrical release; which is a great choice given the current state of the world.

Sony’s live action films, ahead of 2022, will stream on Netflix.

Saw 10 is reportedly in development

Despite the ninth entry in the popular franchise, titled Spiral: From the Book of Saw, not being released yet, there are reports that the tenth instalment will begin filming soon.

Saw is a long-running franchise with a loyal audience; the success of which can definitely be linked to the director of the first movie, James Wan, who has since built his name into the horror genre.

The ninth film is set to release on May 14th 2021; around a year after its original intended release date.

The plot for Spiral came about thanks to Chris Rock, who pitched an idea for a reboot of the franchise, but still keeping the original spirit of what came before it. Rock starred in the movie alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Max Minghella, who all take on a copycat of the famous killer, Jigsaw.

While there unfortunately isn’t a lot of news surrounding Saw X (a supposed working title), we do know that the original director James Wan’s production company, Atomic Monster, will be involved; this will definitely make sure that the new film keeps the original flick’s spirit.

Secret Star Trek film has already set a release date

Production company Paramount Pictures has verified that a new addition to the Star Trek franchise is on its way and will be released in 2023.

The film series was rebooted in 2009 with J.J. Abrams directing – however the final flick in this trilogy, Star Trek: Beyond (2016), did not do well and made much less than the second film did.

However, the well-known characters and stories surrounding them seem to be doing rather well on the small screen as Star Trek: Discovery and Picard, starring Patrick Stewart, are a big hit among the sci-fi fans.

Since 2016, following the essential failure of the final act in the trilogy, Paramount haven’t really been sure about where to take the franchise next.

Despite not knowing of casting news or a plot of any kind, we do know when we will see Star Trek 4 (working title) and that it will potentially feature a brand new cast.

The untitled and yet-to-begin film will be released on June 9th, 2023 – plenty of time to theorise what Paramount will do to this beloved franchise.
