Battle: Los Angeles

Battle: Los Angeles

Battle: Los Angeles has fought it's way to the top of the U.S. box office - enduing the one week reign of animation movie Rango.

Aaron Eckhart leads the cast in the alien invasion/war movie which opened with $36 million this weekend.

For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world -- Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China.

But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces.

As people everywhere watch the world's great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected.

It's up to a Marine staff sergeant and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they've ever encountered before.

Rango fell a single place to number two while Red Riding Hood, which sees Catherine Hardwicke return to the director's chair was new at three.

Hardwicke has not directed the movie since the success of Twilight back in 2008 but she has brought together Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman and Julie Christie for a re-telling of this popular tale.

The Adjustment Bureau was down two places at number four and a third and final new entry rounded of the top five in the form of Mars Needs Moms.

Comedy Hall Pass, which sees Owen Wilson back on the big screen, fell two places to number six but this week's biggest faller was Beastly as it dropped four places from three to seven.

Just Go With It and I Am Number Four held firm at eight and nine while The King's Speech fell three places from lat week's number seven to round off the top ten.
