Danny Boyle has vowed to go "back to basics" as he oversees the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London - because he's convinced nothing can top Beijing's spectacular celebrations.

The Slumdog Millionaire director is heading up the committee to stage the event which kickstarts the sporting ceremony, but he's not expecting Britain's bash to rival Beijing's colourful carnival atmosphere from 2008.

He tells Britain's Evening Standard, "We're trying to do something different, because I don't think England could quite top Beijing. It would be foolish to try because it was such a massive thing.

"So we're going to start again really and go back to basics. What's most important is not the opening ceremony. It's the Games that follow it."

There's plenty of talk surrounding Boyle at the moment as he new movie 127 Hours closed the London Film Festival last week.

The movie, which is his first since the success of Slumdog Millionaire, is already surrounded in Oscar talk.
