Danny Boyle believes that the success of Slumdog Millionaire helped him get the story of Aron Rolston in his new movie 127 Hours to the big screen.

Boyle's latest film has already gained some critical attention on the festival circuit and is surrounded in Oscar talk.

But the director thinks that it is the Oscar success of Slumdog Millionaire, which tool Best Picture and Best Director, that has helped the project along.

Speaking to MTV he said: "We obviously had a short, small window in which to strike, when people really believe in you for all sorts of reasons. We used it to try and make this film, obviously."

Boyle went on to call Rolston's amazing story, he got his arm trapped under a boulder whist climbing in Utah and had to amputate to survive, a challenge.

"It was an amazing challenge. I'd always wanted to make it. I've always been fascinated by the idea of trapping someone.

"In a medium that's all about movement and change, constant vibration of images, I thought it would be wonderful to challenge that and see if we could make an action movie where the hero doesn't move."

127 Hours is released 7th January.
