District 9

District 9

Peter Jackson's District 9 has held onto the number one spot at the UK box office for a second week despite a string of new releases.

The critically acclaimed movie grossed just over £1 million this weekend and was the only movie to break through the £1 million barrier.

There was also no move at number two as The Final Destination as it held off tough competition from Dorian Gray.

An adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray actor Ben Barnes is back on the big screen as Gray, a man who stays young while his portrait ages.

There was another new entry at number four for horror movie Sorority Row while 500 Days of Summer dropped two places to round off the top five.

Meryl Streep's latest performance in Julie & Julia as TV cook Julia Child is already causing an Oscar stir, she is the favourite to pick up the Best Actress gong next year, and it was another new entry at six.

And Adventureland, which sees Kristen Stewart leave the world of Twilight behind her for a little while was new in at ten.

Judd Apatow's Funny People was this week's biggest faller as it dropped four places from five to nine.
