Don Cheadle has hinted that a third Iron Man movie may begin shooting next year.

Cheadle joined the cast for Iron Man 2 when he took over the role of James Rhodes from Terrance Howard.

Speaking to Collider the actor said: "Iron Man 3 is coming back. We'll probably do that again in February and there's talk of a War Machine spinoff, which I guess, unless I get recast, I would probably do.

"I have a contract to be in The Avengers but I'm glad they haven't exercised that option yet. I need some down time."

Robert Downey Jr is currently reprising his role as Tony Stark for The Avengers, which sees him team up with Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner - who play Captain America, Thor, The Hulk and Hawk Eye.

The movie is being directed by Joss Whedon and is expected to hit cinema screens next summer.

However a third Iron Man movie would not see Jon Favreau return to the director’s chair - Shane Black is the filmmaker that replaces him.
