Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt has described wearing corsets for The Young Victoria as 'hell'.

The British actress took on the role of Queen Victoria during the early years of her reign in the Jean-Marc Vallée directed movie and it was up to costume designer Sandy Powell to create the right look.

In an interview with People the actress said: "It was hell. When you're playing a character like Queen Victoria it helps to have a visionary like Sandy Powell.

"She corset-ed me within an inch of my life. Thank God I did learn to work the corset. She said, 'The shape needs to be right.' I said, 'Well I can't breathe, Sandy.' And she said, 'I don't care.'

"But it worked. It transported me to a whole other place so I have to be grateful, I think."

The Young Victoria was the first big lead role for Blunt and she went on to bag a Golden Globe nomination for her performance earlier this year.

She is back on the big screen later this year in Gulliver's Travels alongside funnyman Jack Black.
