Guillermo Del Toro

Guillermo Del Toro has spoken out in support of the casting of Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.

Del Toro had originally been on board the project as director but left earlier this year due to the delay of getting the movie up and running.

Peter Jackson has taken over as director of the movie, he was originally serving as script writer and executive producer, and Del Toro has backed his casting decision.

Speaking to Shortlist he said: "I have the perfect actor for every character in the movie, but I don't feel morally correct to saying who now that I'm not directing," he said.

"But [as for Martin specifically] absolutely, 100%. I'm a huge fan of his. I love him in The Office and Love Actually."

Del Toro has a couple of directing projects in the pipeline including Frankenstein and at the Mountains of Madness, the latter should see him team up with Hellboy star Ron Pearlman.

But he is also serving as producer on Biutiful, Julia's Eyes, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and Kung Fu Panda 2.
