Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain says that she likes to take on characters that are very different from herself.

The actress has had a whirlwind year or so with success in the likes of Tree of Life and The Help and she is set to return to the big screen in Lawless.

But the Oscar nominated actress says that she wants to tackle roles that will see her face her fears.

Speaking to Total Film the actress said: "I always try to play characters who are very different from what I am.

"If the character was a good swimmer or a diver, I’d be interested because in my real life, I am really scared of water. I would immediately feel compelled to do it because I’m always trying to tackle any fear I have.

"I don’t want my life to be controlled by fear, whether it’s the fear of being rejected, fear of not being loved; I want to run into my life with open arms."

Lawless is a big screen adaptation of the novel The Wettest Country In The World by Matt Bondurant.

The movie is directed by John Hillcoat and sees Chastain star alongside Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Gary Oldman.

Lawless is released 7th September
