Joe Cornish has revealed that he has longed to get into directing.

Cornish is best known as a screenwriter, penning The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn and Ant-Man but has been looking to move behind the camera.

And he is set to make his feature film debut with Attack the Block, which stars Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker and Luke Treadway.

But Cornish reveals that this movie has been many years in the making.

Speaking to BBC's Film 2011 Cornish said: "I've been a frustrated filmmaker for a while.

"I've watched my friends like Garth Jennings, Edgar Wright and Jonathan English, who made Ironclad, make films and be successful so I kind of wanted to throw my hat in the ring."

He went on to talk about his new movie: "It's a comedy-horror. For me the comedy and horror only works if the horror is frightening, then the laughter is a release.

"I think if you're laughing in a comedy-horror without fear then maybe it's just a comedy."

Attack The Block is released 13th May.
