Joel Edgerton has revealed that he was nervous about getting involved in The Thing but signed on because it is a whole new chapter to this movie.

Edgerton is back on the big screen later this year off the back of major success with Warrior with a prequel to the John Carpenter movie.

And the actor admits that this new story is much better than just doing a straight remake of the original.

Speaking to Collider Edgerton said: "Yeah, I’m pretty skeptical about Hollywood and its fascination with the sequel and the franchise. It’s a zone we seem to be in, at the moment.

"It’s definitely a slightly nerve-wracking thing to get involved with. I don’t think I would have done it, if it was a remake because I personally believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

"But, the whole reason these guys had for doing a prequel was pretty genius, when you look at the Carpenter movie. It’s like it was served up on a plate by Carpenter, back in ‘82, with this whole mystery of what happened at the Norwegian camp.

"What (director) Matthijs [van Heijningen Jr.] and Universal did was open up a lovely chapter that you wish had been told."

The Thing is released 2nd December.
