Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley reveals that she found the role of Elizabeth Bennet far more daunting than her new role of Anna Karenina.

The actress is back on the big screen in another adaptation as she teams up with Joe Wright for the third time.

But she admits that it was the love that people had for the character of Elizabeth that made it such a tough role to tackle.

Speaking to the Press Association the actress said: "Playing someone like Elizabeth Bennet is more terrifying because it's a character that people love, a lot of women ... see themselves as.

"People don't see themselves as Anna. They don't have this love for her ... from that point of view, it's not as terrifying".

Anna Karenina is an adaptation of the Leo Tolstoy novel and is the first project that she has worked on with Wright since Atonement.

But the movie is already being praised by the critics and is surrounded in early Oscar whispers.

Anna Karenina is released 7th September.
