Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Mary Elizabeth Winstead has called wearing no make-up in her new movie The Thing 'liberating'.

The actress leads the cast in a prequel to the 1982 movie of the same name by John Carpenter teaming up with Joel Edgerton and director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.

And Winstead admits that this is the type pf character that she would like to play more often.

Speaking to The Press Association at the LA Premiere of the movie the actress said: "I'm in a parka, completely covered, the whole movie, there's no shower scene, there's no make-up, not a shred of make-up.

"It was really liberating for me to get to play a character who's not supposed to look pretty all the time."

"I would love to play characters like that more often, because I think the less pressure we can put on women to look perfect all the time, the better."

We haven't seen Winstead on the big screen since Scott Pilgrim vs the World but she is set to star in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter next year.

The Thing is released 2nd December.
