Matt Damon admits that he would be open to reprising the role of Jason Bourne if they find the right story.

The actor admits that he loves the character and has always been open to returning if the project was right.

He last played Bourne back in 2007 and was absent when The Bourne Legacy hit the big screen this summer - Jeremy Renner played a new character in the form of Aaron Cross.

Speaking to Access Hollywood the actor said: "I've always been [open]. I love that character and I love that series."

"It's just really an issue of finding the story. We don't know what that is. How do you get that character going again? If we could crack that, we'd do it."

The actor went on to say that he regularly discusses Bourne with director Paul Greengrass "We have a bunch of stuff we talk about but Bourne always comes up, inevitably, because it's a big, significant part of our lives.

"So we would love for it to work out, but it's a tough one."

Since Bourne Legacy was released this summer there has been much talk about Damon and Renner coming together for a movie.

However a sequel to The Bourne Legacy is in the pipeline.
