Matt Damon says he is thrilled that pal Ben Affleck was triumphant at the Golden Globes.

Damon and Affleck won a Golden Globe and Oscar together for their Good Will Hunting Screenplay and now Affleck is picking up awards on his own.

He picked up the Best Director and Best Picture Drama at the Golden Globes at the weekend and Damon says he is not surprised.

Speaking to Reuters the actor said: "I'm just thrilled for him. I'm really happy.

"I'm not at all surprised, because I've known him for so long and I know how talented he is."

Damon has also continued his work behind the camera as he penned the script for his latest movie Promised Land with John Krasinski.

The movie was supposed to mark Damon's directorial debut but the actor handed over the reigns to Gus Van Sant.

As for Affleck he is up for a trio of Baftas; Best Director, Best Actor and Best Film as well as Best Picture at the Oscars.
