Paul has stormed to the top of the UK box office, toppling Gnomeo and Juliet in it's opening weekend.

The movie sees Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for the first time since Hot Fuzz, the pair have also penned the script, with Greg Mottola behind the camera.

Two British comic-book geeks travelling across the U.S. encounter an alien outside Area 51.

Paul took £5.5 million this weekend to comfortably take the top spot while Gnomeo and Juliet slipped one place to number two.

The King's Speech was also down one at number three while Joel and Ethan Coen's remake of True Grit stayed at number four.

The second new entry on the chart this week came in the form of Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son, which saw martin Lawrence return to the big screen.

Yogi Bear fell just one place to six but this week's biggest faller was Tangled, Disney's fiftieth animation movie, as it was down four at seven.

Comedy Just Go With It, which topped the U.S. box office, fell two places to finish at number eight.

Bieber fever didn't sweep through UK cinemas as expected as Never Say Never only opened at nine - failing to make a million in it's opening weekend.

Black Swan rounded off the top ten as it fell three places from last week's number seven.
