Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brosnan has given up hope for a sequel to hit movie musical Mamma Mia! after revealing plans to film a follow-up have fallen through.

The former James Bond actor teamed up with Meryl Streep and Colin Firth for the 2008 blockbuster and movie producers were reportedly keen to cash in on its popularity with a second instalment.

Last year (09) Streep admitted she was doubtful plans for a sequel would ever come into fruition, saying, "I heard that they were talking about it, but I am not sure it's real."

And now Brosnan appears to have lost interest.

Asked by EmpireOnline.com for an update on Mamma Mia! 2, Brosnan says, "No, I don't think  that's happening."

The movie grossed more than $573 million across the globe upon its release in 2008. The movie was, until Avatar came along, the biggest grossing movie at the UK box office of all time, overtaking Titanic.

Despite not returning to the hit musical Brosnan isn't short of work as he is back on the big screen this week in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

He will also team up with Ewan McGregor in Roman Polanski's Ghost Writer and star alongside Robert Pattinson in Remember Me, both of which are due to hit cinema screens over the coming months.
