Jaden and Will Smith in After Earth

Jaden and Will Smith in After Earth

M. Night Shyamalan says there were no on set fights between Will and Jaden Smith whilst filming After Earth.

The pair play father and son for a second time in the science fiction film as they team up with Shyamalan for the first time.

And the director says that the pair have a great relationship and it was fascinating watching them work together.

Speaking to the Press Association the director said: "They seem really healthy. I've never seem them fight. They have a normal relationship, he gets irritated at his dad, but no teenage blow-out fights."

"On set, seeing Will give him advice, the way he did it, the way he would do it, assuming how Jaden would be feeling at this stage in his career, learning how to act and being in the spotlight.

"And seeing Jaden wanting to be like his dad, and realising he's different, thinking, 'I want what my dad has but I won't be able to do it his way', all that is happening silently. It was fascinating to watch."

The movie is the first big screen outing for Shyamalan since The Last Airbender back in 2010.

However the movie has struggled in the first weekend at the U.S. box office and has failed to win over the critics.

After Earth is released 7th June.
