Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have decided to focus on individual projects.

Kurtzman and Orci have become a formidable screen writing force in recent years, with the likes of Star Trek and The Amazing Spider Man 2 scripts under their belt.

However, the pair have now gone their separate ways in what is believed to be an 'amicable' split.

Variety reports that Orci is eager to helm 'Star Trek 3', which is without a director as J.J. Abrams has switched to the 'Star Wars' franchise, but Paramount Pictures is wary of hiring him, as he has never directed a movie before.

Meanwhile, Kurtzman has already been hired by Sony Pictures to helm 'Amazing Spider-Man' spin-off film, 'Venom', which he will also co-write.

The pair are set to go out with a bang as The Amazing Spider Man 2 enjoyed the biggest international opening weekend of 2014.

The movie is yet to open in the U.S. - where it is set to be just as successful.

Kurtzman and Orci teamed up with Jeff Pinkner to pen the second instalment of the hit franchise: they took over from James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves, who penned the first film.

The Amazing Spider Man 2 is out now.
