Michael Fassbender has revealed that The Matrix has been a huge inspiration whilst making Assassin's Creed.

Assassin's Creed is one of the most anticipated computer game movies as Fassbender is set to take on the central role and team up with filmmaker Justin Kurzel.

The pair first worked together on the critically acclaimed Macbeth last year and have now reunited for Assassin's Creed, a movie that Fassbender has been linked to for quite some time.

Speaking during an interview with Empire, the actor said: "I've always thought about The Matrix when we've approached this. This idea of DNA memory elevates it from a basic fantasy genre [piece], because you have something an audience can actually believe in. Then the journey becomes so much more elevated, because you're on board in a different way."

Assassin's Creed really is promising to be an action packed ride, but the Oscar-nominated actor reveals that very little green screen has been used during the filming process.

Fassbender continued: "There's very little green screen in this, which is highly unusual in these films. We have stunt guys jumping across buildings in [Maltese capital] Valletta. We've got [stunt man Damian Walters] doing a 120-foot leap of faith, without any rope, into a bag, so it's pretty incredible to see."

The movie is now in post-production, will hit the big screen at the end of the year and is the first time that we will see Kurzel in the director's chair since Macbeth.

A terrific cast has been assembled as Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael Kenneth Williams will all star alongside Fassbender, who will take on the central role of Callum Lynch.

2016 has already been a successful year for Fassbender, picking up Best Actor nominations at the Oscars, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards and Baftas for his performance in Steve Jobs. This is the second Oscar nomination of his career - his first coming for 12 Years A Slave - but it is his first Best Actor nod.

We are going to be seeing plenty of him on the big screen this year as he has already completed work on Trespass Against Us, X-Men: Apocalypse, and The Light Between Oceans. He is currently filming The Snowman with Rebecca Ferguson, James D'Arcy, J.K. Simmons, and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Tomas Alfredson is in the director's chair and the film is an adaptation of the novel by Jo Nesbo.

Assassin's Creed is released 30th December.
