Ben-Hur is one of the most iconic movies of all time and a new adaptation is coming our way this summer.

Ben-Hur

It was back in 1959 when Charlton Heston took on the title role and now Jack Huston is going to follow in his footsteps as he teams up with filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov for the first time.

Ben-Hur will be released later this summer and a series of fantastic new character posters have been unveiled featuring Huston ad Judah Ben-Hur, Toby Kebbell as Messala, Morgan Freeman, Ilderim, Rodrigo Santoro as Jesus, and Nazanin Boniadi as Esther. Take a look:

Bekmambetov has brought us movies such as Night Watch, Day Watch, and Wanted during his career and this is his first feature since Yolki 1914 back in 2014.

The movie is based on the novel of the 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ by Lew Wallace and has been adapted for the big screen by Keith Clarke and Oscar-winner John Ridley; he won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for his work on 12 Years A Slave.

After falsely being accused of assassination by boyhood friend Messala (Kebbell), Judah Ben-Hur (Huston), is sentenced to slavery. After five years in the gallery of a Roman slave ship, he escapes and takes on the Roman Empire - and Messala - in a chariot race.

This looks set to be another exciting adaptation of the Ben-Hur story and I am looking forward to seeing what Bekmambetov delivers.

Ben-Hur is released 26th August.
