Cumberbatch was on the red carpet at the BFI London Film Festival this weekend to promote his new film Black Mass, which sees him team up with Depp for the first time.

Cumberbatch and Depp take on the roles of Billy and Whitey Bulger - one went into politics and the other become one of Boston's most infamous criminals.

Speaking on the red carpet about working with Depp on the film, Cumberbatch said: "He is so easy going, so light-hearted, and he never draws on his celebrity of status. He is a world class actor. He was like 'he man, how are you? It's so cool we get to hang out and do this movie.' I love him.

"He is a very generous and loyal human being. It was really easy to talk about the conversations that we may or may not have had as real characters and brothers and how we would then represent that on screen."

Not only does Black Mass see Cumberbatch work with Depp for the first time, it also sees him team up with director Scott Cooper for their first project together. Cooper has brought us movies such as Crazy Heart and Into The Furnace and Black Mass is only the third feature film of his directing career to date.

Black Mass is the first time that we have seen Cumberbatch on the big screen since the success of The Imitation Game last year - however, he did go on to lend his voice to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Penguins of Madagascar.

2015 has been a busy year for Cumberbatch as he has been playing Hamlet on the stage as well as reprising the role of Sherlock for the BBC.

The actor has also been filming Jungle Book: Origins, in which he is set to take on the role of Shere Khan, and he is about to step into the Marvel world for the first time as Doctor Strange is due to get under way.

Cumberbatch will take on the title role in the film, which is one of a string of new Marvel film franchises heading our way over the next few years. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, and Rachel McAdams are also on the cast list while Scott Derrickson is in the director's chair.

Black Mass is released 27th November.
