Benedict Cumberbatch is playing down Oscar talk, saying it is far too early to be talking about that kind of thing.

Cumberbatch takes on the role of Alan Turing in the new biopic The Imitation Game.

The Imitation Game won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, and Cumberbatch's performance has already been heavily praised.

This has led to Cumberbatch and the movie itself being tipped as an early Oscar contender. However the actor is playing down the talk.

Speaking to Hello! magazine, the actor said: "It would be amazing, but to be honest it's so premature that it would almost be futile to talk about it.

"I understand why it always happens at festivals, but I just got my suit back from the dry cleaners from this year's Oscars...

"There's lots of films to see before we start going, 'Oooh, blah, blah."

The Imitation Game looks at the role Turing playing in the cracking of the Enigma Code during the Second World War, and the persecution that he faced because of his sexuality.

Cumberbatch is joined on the cast list by Keira Knightley, Mark Strong, and Charles Dance, while Morten Tyldum is in the director's chair.

The Imitation Game is set to open the BFI London Film Festival next week, with many of the stars set to walk the red carpet on the opening night.

The Imitation Game is released 14th November.
